James Gale Managing Editor Will the iPadOS lure me away from the charms of my iPhone XS Max and back to my lonely iPad? Yeah! Martin Smith Group Senior Designer As a designer, Sidecar is going to be a gamechanger. I’ve wanted this feature ever since I got my iPad Pro. Bob Canning Staff Writer It’s the Sign In with Apple feature for me. I hate giving my personal information to companies that sell advertising. Alison Drew Sub Editor I’d love that Pro Display XDR and its Pro Stand for subbing in portrait orientation. Maybe if I win the Lottery. Twice. Ian Osborne Editor iTunes often made me feel like putting my fist through the screen. I’m really looking forward to losing it in favour of three new apps. The new Mac Pro – wow! What an incredible beast of a machine. After the spectacular misstep with the 2013 drum-shaped Pro machine, Apple is back on form with this modular, expandable tower Mac. Sure, it’s expensive, but look at what you’re getting for your money. Technology like that doesn’t come cheap. What’s less excusable is the $1000 Apple is charging for the stand that goes with the new Pro Display XDR. Yes, you read that correctly; a thousand US dollars for the stand. But a grand, for a stand? Come on, that’s taking…

A 512GB iPhone Xs Max sets you back $1,449 over there, which, according to currency exchange site Xe.com, is £1,110. The actual price in the UK? £1,449. A top-of-the-range 27-inch iMac is $2,299 in America, which translates to £1,762 in Sterling, but the current UK price is £2,249. Why is there such a big difference? Is Apple ripping us off? Finbar O’Keeffe, London Editor Says: This isn’t…

My son dropped my iPhone down the toilet last week, and destroyed it. I’ve ordered a new one, but if it gets soaked again, what should I do to stop it being wrecked? B. Yeomans, Dundee, Scotland Editor Says: Fish it out as fast as possible. Then switch it off, also as fast as possible. It takes time for the water to get inside the phone and cause a short-circuit. When it’s off, put it in a bowl or dish and cover it with dried rice. This draws out the water. Alternatively, put it in the airing cupboard, or similar warm, dry place. Leave it there for 24 hours before turning it on again. Be strict on this. If you switch it on too soon and there’s still water inside it, your…

Accessory Not Supported Q: I bought a cheap Lightning-to-headphone adapter from eBay, as I lost the one that came with my iPhone X. But when I tried to use it with my cabled headphones, it worked for about 30 seconds, and then I got an on-screen message saying, ‘This accessory is not supported by this iPhone’. What’s wrong with it? Have I bought the wrong thing, or is it faulty? William Kent, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire A: The problem is that your ‘cheap’ cable…

According to Apple, iOS enjoys a 97% customer satisfaction. 85% of iOS users have the latest release, iOS 12, and it’s to go from strength to strength with the next version. “iOS 13 brings new capabilities to the apps you use every day, with rich updates to Photos and Maps, and privacy protecting features like Sign In with Apple, all while delivering faster performance,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We’re excited for customers to experience what’s coming to iPhone this fall and can’t wait for them to see how great everything looks in Dark Mode.” At the Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June 2019, Apple lifted the lid on this forthcoming free update and these features.
