Flanked by his two leading ladies, Michael Douglas cuts a dashing figure on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival. The veteran of screen and stage was accompanied by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their 20-year-old daughter Carys, who was making her debut at the French movie extravaganza. In a pink Elie Saab gown, the aspiring musician posed with her parents at the opening night gala as she and her equally glamorous mum Catherine – also in a dramatic gown by Elie Saab – planted a kiss on Michael’s cheek before the Fatal Attraction star, 77, received a special award honouring his lifetime in film.
“Thank you Cannes!” he later wrote on Instagram. “I am so honoured to receive the honorary Palme d’Or for my career achievements. Catherine, Carys and I had a wonderful time celebrating last night.”
His daughter also clearly enjoyed the experience, writing on social media: “Thank you Cannes for the most wonderful evening! It was an honour to celebrate my father as he received his lifetime achievement Palme d’Or. Bon festival!”
Also making it a family affair was actress Uma Thurman, whose plus-one was her and former husband Ethan Hawke’s son Levon, 21. The duo were attending the opening-night gala and premiere of Johnny Depp’s latest film Jeanne du Barry, with Uma wowing the crowds on the French Riviera in a princess-style Dior gown and cape.
Putting on another stunning show was Dame Helen Mirren, unveiling a dramatic new look as she posed for photographers on the red carpet.
The 77-year-old was sporting newly dyed blue hair, almost the exact same hue as her floor-length Del Core dress.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was another star lauded for her effortless style at the event, with the 52-year-old wearing a sequinned plunging Celine by Hedi Slimane gown.

Harrison Ford and wife Calista Flockhart, wearing Zuhair Murad, lead the arrivals at the premiere of the latest Indiana JonesÉ instalment. A standing ovation – and an unexpected honour, a lifetime achievement Palme d’Or – greeted him inside

There were more showstopping looks at the premiere of Japanese movie Monster, Viola Davis looking stunning in a white one-shouldered gown and matching feathered coat by Valentino, the dazzling ensemble specially designed for the Oscar-winning actress by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.
At the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth and final part of the popular big-screen adventure franchise, the film’s headline star Harrison Ford led the arrivals. Accompanied in a rare red-carpet appearance by his wife Calista Flockhart, 58, the 80-year-old veteran actor looked happy and relaxed as he posed for photographers. His co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 37, wowed in a black Schiaparelli couture gown.
Reports suggest Harrison was later left close to tears during a five-minute standing ovation inside the cinema when a reel of his greatest big-screen moments was played before the movie began. And after making his way to the stage, he was the surprise recipient of another lifetime achievement Palme d’Or.
“I’m very moved by this,” he said afterwards before paying tribute to his wife of nearly 13 years. “My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful.” ■
