editor’s letter

Any regime, any woman, any city—India, as a country, fails its daughters every minute. Yes, I am talking about the Priyanka Reddy tragedy where the Hyderabad vet was raped and burned on the road. As we go to press, social media is abuzz with how justice has been served with the alleged encounter killings of the four rape accused. The post-debates have taken a turn for the worse, ranging from victim blaming to how swift justice is the only way out; yet, the real casualty here is a woman’s freedom. She could be an urban dweller or living in the rural pockets; a girl who knows her rights to one who has never seen a classroom; she could be you, she could be me. As a woman in India, she lives unsafe. THERE…

we hear you!

The November 24, 2019 issue was excellent. The fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2019 winners on the cover were the perfect examples of beauty, grace, and poise. Kudos for bringing to us the interview of the first woman BEST bus diver Pratiksha Das. I love the Food section as it was only through Femina that I learned how to cook. Can we have some more breakfast recipes? Thanks to team Femina for putting up a great issue. Lailaa Khan, Mumbai I loved the Fashion segment and The Big Story–All that glitters, from the latest issue. I am a creative designer, and it was a delight to see the gorgeous jewellery pieces featured in the section. The petty party article (All About You, Career) on how to deal with toxic coworkers was an…

rock that party!

GO RISQUÉ! Imagine you walk into a party and are greeted by posters of your favourite films, while also having life-size cut-outs of your favourite actors to strike a pose with. Or, better still, a troupe of Russian belly dancers welcoming you and keeping you company, while you try to unsuccessfully keep up with their pirouetting. With themes ranging from Playboy bunnies to Havana Nights and Sundowners to Casino Royale, adults are having way more fun at parties than ever before! However, this is restricted to cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, where people are largely unorthodox in their approach. Be it a certain kind of décor, props or dress code—you name it, and you’ll have it. “Adult parties have evolved widely and wildly. Everyone needs entertainment in their busy and stressful…

hot cakes!

Adult-themed cakes are considered a regular for hen parties among women. Aditi Kohli, a Le Cordon Blue-trained Delhi baker, who runs the popular Papillon Cupcakes & More in Delhi, is one such chef who has been whipping up “naughty” cakes, along with more modest, gourmet creations, for the last seven years. What cakes do you specialise in? My specialisation is cake decorations with fondant (a kind of sugar icing). I bake as per the client’s requirements. Initially, I would do customised cupcakes as well, but nowadays that is minimal. What is your retail model? People place orders a week to 10 days prior to the event, and then we discuss designs and details. When did you first make a “naughty” cake? I made my first adult cake five years ago. It was for a wedding shower, and…
