Weighing on Him
William’s frustrated with his wife’s eating habits and is encouraging Kate to make better choices. “He’s at his wits’ end over the fact that his wife won’t listen to his sensible advice,” says a source.
A Small Problem
“There’s no disguising that her cheeks are sunken and her clothes are falling off her frame — she’s clearly not giving herself enough nourishment,” a source tells Star.
If Kate and William get pregnant in the new year, says an insider, it won’t be healthy for the duchess — or the baby — at her current weight.
The athletic Kate has become increasingly slight over the years.
ATTENDING the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December, Duchess Kate glowed in an Alexander McQueen velvet floor-length gown. While some fashion experts were quick to note that the royal had a new rock on her right-hand ring finger complementing her Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, those close to the 37-year-old couldn’t deny a more shocking aspect of her appearance: her shrinking figure.
Always willowy, the 5-foot-9 Duchess of Cambridge is now so thin that her husband, Prince William, 37, is frantic about her well-being. (NYC-based Dr. Fred Pescatore, who does not treat Kate, estimates she weighs in at just 115 pounds, adding that’s “too thin for her.”) “She’s working herself into the ground and skipping meals an awful lot,” says a source. “As much as he tries not to nag her, William’s gently pointing out it’s time to do something about this bad habit.”
A THIN LINE
December was a particularly busy month for the duke and duchess. Between royal obligations, their appearance on Mary Berry’s BBC special A Berry Royal Christmas and prepping for the holidays with Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 20 months, Kate rarely had time for proper meals, says the insider. “To be fair, she tries to start her day with a hearty breakfast, typically consisting of eggs and fruit juice,” says the source, “but oftentimes she’s rushed and will fly out the door with just a slice of toast and a cup of black coffee.”
And after those busy mornings getting herself and the children ready for the day, the source adds, “Kate’s running to her public appearances or meetings at Buckingham Palace,” forcing her to grab on-the-go lunches as well. “She’ll generally ask an aide to bring her a salad, which she’ll nibble, along with some nuts or dried fruit.” When members of her circle voice concern, says the source, “Kate will insist she gets her nutrients in other ways. For instance, after each daily cardio session, she’ll treat herself to an energy bar or a protein shake to keep her energy level up.”
Her steadfast devotion to those workouts has more than just William concerned. “Kate’s always been naturally slender, but she’s getting thinner and thinner as the years go by,” says the source. “It’s shocking for the whole family to witness — not just William.”
With the parents of three hoping to expand their family, the insider says William’s even more determined to help Kate put on some weight. He feels it’s imperative, given the difficulties she faced with her past three pregnancies. “Kate does want another baby and is determined to make this happen in 2020, even if it means undergoing some of the discomfort she did previously,” says the insider.
During all three of her pregnancies, the duchess suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that can cause intense nausea, vomiting, dehydration — and weight loss. “Everyone knows how tough the morning sickness was for her,” says the source, “so William’s hoping she tucks into plenty of stuffing and mince pies in the new year.” ■
