welcome to the issue

LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM, when the Trumps come to town they make a BIG entrance. But while Donald and Melania dominated the headlines during their visit last week, there was someone else gaining almost as much attention. Step forward the US President’s daughter, Ivanka. Now an advisor to her father, Ivanka is the only one of Donald’s five children to have a role in the White House. Polly Dunbar goes behind the scenes to find out who the real Ivanka is – and discovers that political experts are calling her ‘One of the 10 most powerful people in US politics’ and aren’t sure how they feel about that. @hattie_brett / feedback@graziamagazine.co.uk…

over to you...

MY YEAR WITH MUM ‘Things you only know… if you live with your parents’ (27 May) was so moving. I phoned my mum to ask if I could come home having found the courage to leave my boyfriend when I was 31. She was overwhelmed. My dad had passed away seven years earlier and me and mum were always close. She cared for me like no one else could, and me her. Now she is gone, I look back on that year as precious, where I got to know my lovely mum through adult eyes. It brought us even closer and I’m so glad it happened. Marie Crozier LET’S GET DEMANDING What an amazing piece of writing Polly Vernon’s article about abortion rights was (3 June). Why won’t more men speak up? Why…

letter of the week

WEDDING MESSES Why we love to hate Bridezilla (10 June) was brilliant. I’ve seen my fair share of stressed-out brides’ outlandish behaviour. My sister was a nightmare – she’d be the first to admit it. Our parents and I had to take on second jobs to afford her wedding – so extravagant were her demands for perfection. She fell out with all but one of her bridesmaids, and that’s only because that one was just three! Your feature gave some sound and calming advice to brides-to-be. You need to decide on your priorities and create a budget with whoever is paying early on, so if you want to spend more on the band or photographer, cut back elsewhere. And difficult as it may be, talk to people about something other than…

“Looking for love? Honesty really is the best policy How refreshing to see new data released by dating app Badoo shows that users who are honest about themselves get more matches. The app created badges so that daters can admit upfront that they live at home with parents or that they drink heavily – both possible red flags – and found that those who used them were more popular than those who kept info to a minimum. This follows hot on the heels of Hinge founder Justin McLeod saying that ‘really allowing yourself to be seen’ on his app is the secret to finding a good match. Turns out we don’t want to find the ‘perfect’ person online – we just want to meet someone real.”…
