Because they have lower levels of security, motorbikes are a popular target for thieves. Last year, 15,832 were stolen. Recently, tracking firm BikeTrac located its biggest-ever haul of stolen bikes when a customer’s tracker led it to a shipping container at Tilbury Docks containing their BMW R1200 GS and 24 others.
“When we started 15 years ago, alarms were the only defence and bike recovery rates were just 40%, but today, with tracker technology, they’re over 90%,” said BikeTrac co-founder Bill Taylor.
