“Write what you know,” they say, and that’s what stand-up comedian Bill Burr did for his directorial debut in Old Dads, a movie about later-in-life parenthood and friendship. “It’s about three friends in different stages of their lives,” Burr, 55, says. “They have little kids—they’re older dads—and they have a business together. The three of them are trapped in the ‘80s, early ‘90s. In their heads, that was the greatest time to be alive. The whole world has changed, and they haven’t.” When they sell their company to a millennial, they realize they finally have to “get with the times or life is going to pass them by,” he says.
