PHILIPP MUELLER Philipp photographs cover girl Jessica Clarke (page 54) What phrase or word do you overuse the most? Apart from a lot of swearing, I don’t have any. I use my words carefully – most of the time;-) Which super-power would you most like to have? I would love to fly. Like Superman. What’s your go-to fancy-dress costume? I have the suit Sting was wearing in Quadrophenia. If you could get away with one crime, what would it be? Stealing an Andy Warhol painting from a museum. CELIA THURSFIELD Celia (seen here with Greti) helps round up Britain’s best state schools (page 78) What’s your signature dance move? Reverse bottom shuffle (aka shit twerking). What’s your worst habit? An unhealthy obsession with cushions. If you could get away with one crime, what would it be? Stealing puppies. What would be your death-row meal? A mountain of Bakewell tarts. MARGOT…

here’s looking at… coco capitan

Coco Capitán is an artist, photographer, wordsmith, philosopher and Alessandro Michele of Gucci’s new favourite person. The 25-year-old Spaniard has been writing all her life. ‘It is an outgrowth of my creative process,’ she explains. Like a modern-day Barthes, she is particularly interested in ‘the wording in adverts and cheap slogans’, so it seems very fitting that a collaboration with Gucci has seen her phrases splashed across their sweatshirts, silk scarves and belt bags. The statements are personal, poetic and gratifyingly curious, such as: ‘What are we going to do with all this future?’; ‘Common sense is not that common’; and ‘I want to go back to believing a story.’ It’s fashion that makes you think. indigo denim

Dark denim is power play, really. This deadly indigo is just about as sharp as denim gets. So much slicker than black. Positively French. In a terrifying New Yorker kind of way. With a dash of Japanese design addict about it. Head to toe is the direction you want to move this spring. Total commitment. It’s a bit tricky to get your head around, but once your eye is in, you’re away. In terms of silhouette? Bag it out or power-dress the hell out of it: your call. And dark denim’s happiest companion is... white. Shoes, belts, bags, T-shirts. Or red. But not black. That just feels a bit sad right now. And, frankly, there’s quite enough to worry about. belt bags

Heaven help us, fashion has decided to go all witty. Oh, what a scream: a bum bag (these fashion types like to call them ‘belt bags’. They can’t say bum. Maybe because they don’t have one) worn as a shoulder bag. Or backwards. Or on the boob. Like those convertible bras that no one can ever convert. Or reversible coats that never get reversed. Americans, we have heard, call them fanny packs. Anyway, they are as statement-y as bags get this season. ‘I AM PART OF THE CHANGING MOOD OF FASHION,’ they squawk. They’re not exactly going to have a deep, booming voice, are they? These are the parrots of the bag world. Love them or loathe them, they are here. For a bit. Not long. Don’t panic.…

the dancer

Here is a test. Google ‘Fred Astaire with a stomach full of corn chips and Valium’ and watch the film that pops up on YouTube. It’s about three minutes long and features a semi-naked Nathan Mitchell. He wakes up in a New York street early one morning, lights a fag and dances backwards as if in a trance, pulling on various items of clothing – blazer, Chelsea boots – he finds along the way. How does your body respond to this video? Does your heart beat faster? Does your stomach start cartwheeling? If so, congratulations! You are a normal human with normal human responses. If it doesn’t, call a doctor and get your pulse checked. Nathan, 29, is a lithe, deeply charming, madly successful and heavily tattooed American dancer. He is the…
