letter from the editor

Beauty and the beast She’s the ultimate diva with two generations of film personalities on both sides of her family. In fact, her family owned film studios. His father was a renowned fight director, who vowed to turn his son into a star. Her natural ease and emotional dexterity in front of the camera set her apart from her peers. While his hair-raising split atop two motorcycles, right in his debut film, left audiences stunned. In short, they were as apart as chalk and cheese. But as they say, opposites attract. Ajay Devgn and Kajol fell in love and have remained in love for more than two decades now. When they got married, naysayers said their marriage wouldn’t last. That the charm would soon fade away. FANNING HYSTERIA Ranveer Singh doesn’t take his fandom or his image as an entertainer lightly. Seen here, amidst a sea of swooning fans, he seems to be enjoying his ‘neon’ moment under the spotlight. SANJANA SANGHI X FACTOR: CAMERA FRIENDLY At 14, she played Mandy, the sweet sister of Nargis Fakhri in Imtiaz Ali’s romance Rockstar (2011). The role came to her when Sanjana Sanghi was still in school. The starry-eyed girl, however, completed her graduation in mass communication in Delhi, before turning to modelling. Later, she appeared in Saket Chaudhary’s comedy Hindi Medium and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey Returns, both in 2017. With tremendous screen presence, she caught the attention of casting director Mukesh Chhabra. He signed her for his directorial debut Dil Bechara - the Hindi remake of John Green’s novel The Fault In Our Stars. The coming-of-age film, pairs her opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. Defining herself as a multi-hyphenate, Sanjana, is also fond of travelling, dancing and fitness. Now, that’s a starry package.…

“i gave him the choicest gaalis”

“During an audition, the director said, ‘I’ll turn on the camera. You’ll be lying on the mattress and I’ll try to rape you. You have to scream bachao-bachao!’ I left from there immediately” Abhishek Pathak’s remake of a 2017 Kannada hit, Ujda Chaman, owes much of its energy to Maanvi Gagroo. She’s the perfect foil to an under-confident Chaman (Sunny Singh), who’s ridiculed for his receding hairline. Comfortable-in-her skin as the plus-sized Apsara, whom Chaman meets on Tinder, Maanvi’s given an endearing performance. “In terms of her outlook towards life, I’m similar to Apsara. People will always pick faults with you. But you needn’t care. It’s not like that all thin girls are happy. Right?” asks Maanvi. “Chaman and my character face humiliation where our physical appearances are concerned. Apsara doesn’t…

cover sensation

He’s the hottest flavour this season. A favourite of millennials, Kartik Aaryan’s journey has been truly inspirational. Having made his debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011, Kartik Aaryan has slowly yet steadily reached the winning mark. The actor entered the 100-crore plus club with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety last year and consolidated his position further with the hit Luka Chuppi in 2019. Heralding his achievements, Filmfare featured him as the cover boy this November 2019. The dapper graciously presided over the cover launch of Filmfare, along with editor Jitesh Pillaai. The event was held in association with Manyavar and Hospitality Partner – Illuminati, BKC, last month. Speaking at the launch Kartik said, “As this is my first Filmfare cover, it’s truly special. It’s a tick off my bucket-list.” He added,…
