As we usher in 2022, the collective mood is upbeat and hopeful. You can see it everywhere, from popular culture to art and design. While contemplating this welcome shift, we decided it was the right time to devote the year’s first issue to joyful design. What does that mean, exactly? For one thing, joyful design embraces color—not just a coral-hued pillow here or a blue-flecked rug there, but an all-out, unapologetic exuberance.
