Heated. Heavy. Harsh. Yes, there are no three Cs when it comes to feuds over the origins of patriotic foods. Take, for example, the Pavlova. The debate between Australia and New Zealand about the rightful home of this light-as-air dessert created in tribute to Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, has taken centre stage for decades, exacerbated by the fact that Anna toured both countries in the 1920s. Dr Helen Leach, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at New Zealand's University of Otago, even made it one of her passion projects.
