It’s hard to believe how different our circumstances were a year ago. Our offices were closed. Staff worked from home. As businesses reduced their presence within these pages, we employed patience and opened lines of communication with our design partners and long-time clients. Now with the resurgence of Florida’s economy, clients have returned. The projects featured in Florida Design continue to shine, and we relish each opportunity to present the best in interiors, architecture, and landscape design from across Florida. Events have also returned. This spring, Florida Design participated as the media sponsor for the second Collab Miami Boutique Design Show. ahead of the curve

In these past few post-COVID months, I’ve made it a point to tour showrooms and meet with as many designers and industry professionals as possible. Every time, the topic of Florida design—what it is and what it isn’t—comes up, and I find the answers fascinating. Does our state have a design signature? There are some common denominators, certainly: expansive outdoor spaces, a tendency toward indoor-outdoor living, broad windows to bring in sunshine and views. But beyond that, it’s hard to compare the immaculate contemporary environments of Miami to the Mizneresque mansions of Palm Beach, or the cottages of the Keys to the modernist architecture of Sarasota.
