green is the new black

The earth is heating up, and that is a fact. While climate change deniers argue that rising temperatures are a myth, evidence can be found in a 2019 research project by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of USA (NASA) confirming that “the balance of energy in the Earth system is out of whack: Our lower atmosphere is warming, the ocean is accumulating more energy, land surfaces are absorbing energy, and Earth’s ice is melting.” This is alarming news, especially for countries, like Singapore, which are surrounded by the ocean. While large-scale initiatives, like the Earth Hour and the Go Green campaign, are drumming up awareness on the subject, it is important to note that small changes we make to our lifestyle can also help salvage the situation. One of the best…

healthy for you & me

At a time when homeowners are jumping on the trend of sustainable consumerism, and in a marketplace filled with products claiming to be eco-friendly, it is heartening to see a company like Soma standing out from the marketing hyperbole to offer products that are genuinely made from environmentally-friendly materials and backed by a vision to reduce pollution. With the overwhelming success of its launch in 2014 as a Kickstarter project by environmentalist-slash-entrepreneur Tal Chitayat, Soma has become an established company offering an all-round green solution to creating clean drinking water while eliminating the need for single-use plastics. Soma’s water filters (used in the pitcher and glass carafe) use activated carbon made from coconut husks housed in a plant-based casing. They do a decent job of removing chlorine, copper, mercury, zinc and…

an earthy shade of red

Gush’s (https://gowithgush.com) description of its latest pastel red hue, Clarion Scarlet, in its press release had us gushing over the blend of brick and rose tones. “From red soil that pervades entire regions and landscapes, to dry African savannah environs and glorious, crimson sunsets. Red in nature can be inspiring, but it also invokes the destruction and damage that our planet is suffering,” it reads, before going on to point out that “Clarion Scarlet reflects the urgency of the climate crisis, but also the hope fueling hearts and sustaining determination.” This sensual shade of red looks as beautiful as the brand makes it sound, evoking an atmosphere of calmness and serenity. It’s perfect for the bed- or powder room.…
