IT’S ALWAYS FUN WATCHING A TREND GROW FROM A SMALL IDEA to a full-! edged phenomenon. A couple of years ago, I heard the " rst murmurs that brass was making a comeback, and, I must confess, I shuddered. Visions of shoulder pads, big hair, and carpeted bathrooms ! ew through my head—after all, what could be more 1980s than brass " xtures? But designers and manufacturers assured me that this was not the orange-y brass that I grew up with (whew!) but rather, a more sophisticated, subdued take on the metal.
