i don’t know about you, but this year makes my brain tired. And when my brain is tired, my body is tired, and when my body is tired, motivation runs for the hills. My goals cease to hold importance, and some even die a slow, painful death. Cellular cleanup crew Like everything, cells wear out over time, but new research from the University of Copenhagen found that exercise helps clean out the old to make way for the new. Study participants completed an intense eightto 10-minute training session on an exercise bike and had their blood drawn before and after the workout. They discovered that exercise prompted an increase in the activity of ubiquitin — aka the “death marker” protein — which targets, attaches itself to and removes wornout proteins in muscles so they can be replaced with new, stronger ones.
