editor’s letter

Right now, I’m sitting in my makeshift home office with the doors wide open to the garden, basking in the warmth of yet another record-breaking heatwave. Yet by the time you are holding this issue in your hands, I know that summer will be almost over and thoughts will begin to turn to crisp autumn days and cosy nights by the fire. Faced with so much uncertainty this year, many of us have taken comfort in life’s simplest pleasures, whether that’s connecting with nature in the garden, baking a cake in the kitchen, or curling up on the sofa with a favourite book. I truly believe that it’s the quality of these small, everyday moments that have the biggest impact on our happiness and well-being, rather than the temporary gratification…

STAR LETTER COASTAL ESCAPE They say things find you when you need them most. My husband bought me a pre-loved ‘she den’ (above) for my birthday, and I wasn’t sure where to start with colours or décor. Then, a few weeks ago, I bought the July issue of Period Living, and the Secret Escapes article gave me just the inspiration I needed. I decided to go for a seaside theme, and have attached a little covered outdoor area. We named it Wit’s End, and I absolutely love it! Another week or two should see it completed. Thanks for the inspiration. Dianne Shaw COTTAGE DREAMS I’m reading the August issue and have just got to the Artists in Isolation feature. I had to stop and send this email to say how inspired I felt looking…

The latest offerings from the interiors world, from new furniture to twists on traditional crafts Soft touch With all of us spending more time at home, there’s never been a better moment to bring a little luxury into the living room. Renowned for its high-quality velvets, British brand Linwood has expanded its vast velvet offering with a new design for autumn, Kami. A celebration of colour and pattern, Kami takes inspiration from an original French 19th-century print, which Linwood’s creative team has beautifully reinterpreted into a painterly geometric available in 19 colourways. Offering a medley of shades in one design, Kami is a great starting point for a room scheme. We love the pairing of peach panelling with Kami in Topaz, £73.50 per m, on this sofa. eye on design

Why did you want to launch a new collection? We like to give our collection a refresh every couple of years, but having been through so much this year we thought it was the right time to introduce a palette of timeless colours. The hope is to enhance people’s wellbeing by connecting them with nature and bringing the outdoors into their homes. At Earthborn we pride ourselves on our eco-friendly formulas, which contain a high proportion of natural clay earth pigments, so it felt right to introduce a palette of grounding shades that really went back to our roots in the natural world. Themed around the earth, land, sand, sea and clouds, the five new shades – Crocky Road, Grassy, Sandy Castle, Skipper and Up Up and Away (swatches left from…

win a victorian floor tile makeover

Original Style launched its Victorian floor tile collection in 1990, so this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary. As 2020 also sees the 30th anniversary of Period Living, we have teamed up to create a beautiful Victorian floor tile anniversary pattern. One lucky reader will win this exclusive design* – or another pattern of their choice – to makeover the floor of their hallway or entranceway. Over the last 30 years, Original Style has developed an extensive collection, offering a range of shapes, colours and handcrafted decorated tiles that are created in its factory in Devon. Victorian geometric floor tiles have been used in interiors for many decades and are still just as popular today, especially for those renovating period properties in an authentic style. It’s easy to restore your property to its…
