Staff writer THE Goodman Gallery presents Gabrielle Goliath's newest video installation work Chorus with members of the UCT Choir sounding a lament for murdered student Uyinene Mrwetyana to local audiences later this month.
On August 24, 2019, Mrwetyana, a 19-year-old student at UCT, was raped, tortured and bludgeoned to death by Luyanda Botha, who worked at her local post office.
The following day Botha dumped her remains in an open field, dousing her body with petrol and setting it alight. Mrwetyana’s murder sparked a public outcry: vigils were held, people wore black, thousands gathered in protest outside Parliament and nationwide.
