In a statement, Eskom’s chief executive for generation Bheki Nxumalo said positive results from the assessment have included design-related issues at Medupi and Kusile power stations, which have been addressed through modifications. He said this has improved maintenance and operations, and significantly improved plant availability. Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) said its dedicated teams of professionals and volunteers responded to Jonkershoek Nature Reserve after a visiting hiker fell from a section of trail, late on Friday afternoon. “The 41-year-old hiker and his partner had hiked up to the Tweede Waterval earlier in the day and were making their way back down the path to their car, when he suddenly slipped from the trail and fell approximately 40m,” WSAR said. Lille: A 7-year-old girl drowned yesterday when a small boat carrying 16 migrants heading from northern France to Britain capsized, the prefecture in France’s Nord department said. The boat “was not appropriately sized to carry so many people”, the local authority said, causing it to capsize soon after people boarded in a canal a few kilometres from the waterway’s exit into the Channel. An unknown number of inmates escaped after armed gangs stormed the main prison in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, on Saturday evening. BATHERS and divers in the Oudekraal area and along the Atlantic Seaboard have been urged to exercise caution after a seal reportedly attacked a group of divers at the weekend. Brussels: Belgian police arrested four youths over messages they exchanged allegedly plotting a jihadist attack deemed “imminent enough to intervene”, a spokesperson for the federal prosecutor’s office said.
