We all remember being 17. Some of us probably did a few things we shouldn’t have. But all of that pales into insignificance next to the antics of Zain Qaiser who, while still a teenager, blackmailed millions of pounds out of computer users.
Working with Russian hackers, Qaiser, from Barking, Essex, posted fake adverts on websites which, when clicked, sent ransomware to users’ PCs. Deviously, Qaiser targeted users of porn websites, who would be embarrassed to contact the authorities.
Now 24, Qaiser was recently jailed for six years after a lengthy investigation into his illegal activities, which may have netted as much as £4 million. Mike Hulett, National Crime Agency’s head of operations, called him “probably the most significant cybercrime offender” it has ever investigated.…
