Taranis, an Israeli agricultural technology company (taranis.ag), was founded in 2015 in a garage by four individuals seeking to develop advanced technologies to increase food production.
Four years later, it has 60 employees and supplies a platform to about 19 000 farmers that helps them make decisions on preventing disease and pest infestation. The product is used in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Russia, the US and Ukraine, and on a variety of crops, including wheat, maize, soya bean, cotton and potatoes.
Co-founder Ofir Schlam, who was raised on a family farm, believes that more accurate predictive models can prevent many of the world’s multibillion-dollar crop losses caused by weather, fertiliser deficiencies, diseases and insect and weed infestations.
The platform uses high-resolution aerial imaging.
