The first production forecast and revised area estimate for commercial maize in the 2019/2020 production season is expected to be almost 30% higher than the previous season.
According to a recent report, released by the Crop Estimates Committee, the total revised area planted to maize was 13,01%, or 299 300ha more than in the 2018/2019 season, while the expected commercial maize crop was 14,5 million tons, which was 29,14% or 3,2 million tons more than the 11,2 million tons of the previous season.
The production forecast for white maize was about 8,3 million tons, which was 49,45% or 2,7 million tons more than the 5,5 million tons harvested in the previous season, while the yellow maize production forecast was 6,2 million tons, or 9,48% more than the 5,7 million tons…
