However, it’s her role as Walford’s wicked Aunt Babe Smith – best known for her evil deeds, comedy hats and a love of trifle – that has earned the star more recognition from audiences than she ever thought possible…
“EastEnders is the first thing I’ve done that, if people see me, they don’t shout, ‘Annette!’ – instead it’s, ‘Babe!’” laughs Annette, as she joins Inside Soap for a catch-up. “I was in Lanzarote, and a man ran at me and said, ‘You’re Babe, aren’t you?’ – but I’ll admit I didn’t come clean. I was on my holidays!”
