I learn, with regret, that Adams bookstore is closing at the end of the month.
It occurs to me that I am probably their oldest customer, having opened an account there in 1944, at the age of 16.
I recall, with pleasure, many of the staff who assisted me. Mrs Bosman from whom I purchased Conway Stewart fountain pens and, also, drawing pencils and pens and sketch blocks and watercolour paper.
And I recall Mrs Edna Steele and Mrs Sandy Heath, who knew my interests and sent me books on appro regularly.
And, of course, I remember Mr Rabjohn, who managed the used books section, and his wonderful knowledge of literature.
As I look at my library, I realise that the majority of the books came from Adams, and many…
