Spices come from the seeds, fruit, and the bark of plants. Though “spicy” food is hot in flavour, most spices are not hot. Instead, they are aromatics—they bring scent and taste to food! Sometimes many spices are mixed together to make a special blend.

Herbs are plant leaves. Though they aren’t technically spices, they are sometimes included in spice blends when the leaves are dried.
