The Order of Malta’s weekend of festivities on the Grand Canal delivered maximum glamour with minimal sleep. Guests – including Lady Marina Windsor and the Earl and Countess of Belfast – swept into Venice for the charity event, the highlight of which was the gala at the Palazzo Pisani Moretta, where gowns reigned supreme and shoe designer (and Venice resident) Edgardo Osorio himself inspected the well-heeled crowd. The trophy for the season’s most glamorous nuptials surely went to Ella and Max Dodd-Noble, who made even the most discerning of wedding-goers raise their standards. After a sun-scorched, storm-dodging ceremony at St Mary’s in Saffron Walden (featuring two impeccably behaved babies: Milo Clarke and Fin Lascelles, who trundled down the aisle in a white cart), guests wandered down to the magical Audley End Miniature Railway, on the estate where the mother of the bride grew up. St Andrew’s Day brought bagpipes, black tie and enough tartan to upholster the Highlands to the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation’s anniversary celebrations.
