MATT BOLTON Editor The natural instinct of an editor is to fit more stuff into smaller stuff, so Matt was the natural choice for creating a perfect mini 4K setup (p16). Also because he knows about tellies and stuff. MICHE LLE MCL AREN Art Editor We promised Michelle a fun day away from the office, directing an on-location photoshoot of cutting-edge tech. As you can imagine, she was delighted to learn the tech was hoovers and mops. PAUL DOUGLAS Global Editor-in-Chief, T3.com Paul’s never jumped on the smartwatch train, but the long battery life of the TicWatch Pro (p98) tempts him. “It’s rugged and reliable, just like me,” he claims. ROB JONES Tech & Gaming Editor, T3.com Rob got his hands on Samsung’s latest opus, the Note 9, for us to look at this issue (p92). That’s hands plural, of course…

editor’s letter

I love putting together our Best Tech for Everything list each year, because we always give ourselves licence to let the rope out a little. Yes, it’s full of laptops and phones and shavers and important stuff everyone needs, but we also like to go a little broader with it. We get to explore the fringes, from the unsexy-butuseful (HDMI switch boxes that support 4K HDR), to the things few people would consider but might actually find a godsend (high-tech treatments that make you look fresh after even the roughest nights), and the fun (great gadgets for luxury glamping, or a drone you fly in first-person). I was also really excited for us to finally get our hands on the Brompton Electric this issue. They’ve been well and truly beaten to market,…

1 SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH From £279, samsung.com Smartwatches are like Marmite: some see the appeal, and some don’t. Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch, a surprisingly attractive successor to the Gear S3, is hoping to convert non-believers and bolster the faith of the smartwatch loyal. The Galaxy Watch arrives in two sizes (42mm and 46mm), and is infused with a plethora of features that aim to make your daily life better. It’s clear that Samsung has designed the Galaxy Watch to look more like a regular timepiece rather than a big chunk of tech squatting on your wrist. In either its Black or Rose Gold persuasion, you’d be as happy pairing it with a crisp shirt as you would your gym clobber. And yes, the new Samsung wants in on your gym time… In addition to…

a compact 4k setup

THE READER David Lees David is converting his garage and wants to turn part of it into a little high-end entertainment den, but it’s tight on space, so he wants to know what the most compact options are. THE EXPERT Matt Bolton Our esteemed(?) editor has lots of experience fitting big tech into pokey houses, and is obsessed with achieving the ultimate in home entertainment nirvana. 1 PHILIPS 43PUS6753/12 Go any smaller than 43 inches and you’ll struggle to see the benefits of 4K, but in a small room this set is ideal for seeing the full splendour of an eight million-pixel image. And with this Philips TV you get the added bonus of three-sided Ambilight adding to the atmosphere. The TV not only handles Ultra HD but HDR too, with impressive micro-dimming of its LED backlights…
