oh hello!

There’s a common thread that links us all as moms, no matter what our background, bank balance or occupation. We want the same things from life: whether it’s for our kids to do well at school, for us to look after our planet, to lead a calmer, more mindful life, to enjoy quality time with our families and to feel balanced and more capable in our many roles. Paging through this issue as it heads to print, it’s clear we’ve ticked many of those boxes. Reading about other women facing down challenges both big and small is always inspiring. On page 22 we chat to 4 ecowarriors who share a common goal: living gently on this planet and actively working to make it happen. On page 26, two women found themselves…

Gail Topper lives in Weltevreden Park with her husband, Cliff. Their children Roland (31), Jessica (29) and Meyrick (27) have all left the nest. GAIL’S FAVOURITE: …BOOK I belong to a book club, so I’m exposed to many different genres and authors. I recently enjoyed The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri [Penguin Random House]. …MOVIE My children would say The Sound of Music, because we must have watched it more than 100 times over the December holidays! …RECIPE Cliff’s an excellent cook and we like trying different cuisines. I lean more towards mezze eating, as I love having diverse flavours and textures on my plate. …GUILTY PLEASURE If I can’t drink a glass of wine during office hours, I may as well eat wine gums! …WAY TO DE-STRESS Sewing or crocheting. In your June 2019 issue, I came across the article ‘I Did it for my Daughter’, about Glenn Joselowitz helping his daughter with her health condition. Looking at my son with his dad, I’m very glad he has someone who’ll be his hero. Although my son’s father and I are no…
