“Gohan vs Androids, or Gohan Death as I like to call it, was a commission work I did in January 2022 based on a Dragon Ball Z anime scene and the last Gohan fight in the Future Trunks timeline. The sculpting process was done in ZBrush. First a rough T-pose sculpt to get the proportions between the characters right, and then posing and detailing the elements. The renders were then done in Blender. Then I thought it would be even better to show her with her dear husband, and immediately had in mind the famous dip scene from the end of the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I wanted to find an interesting pose that showed the bond between the two characters while also keeping the essence of their personalities. For this, I took several screenshots from the movie to use as references in order to create my own version. During the process I mainly used ZBrush to sculpt both of the characters. “I recently became immersed in the lore of Warhammer Fantasy through YouTube, and while browsing ArtStation came across Rinehart Appiah's Dwarf Slayer concept for the Total War: Warhammer game, instantly feeling the urge to make it. I started by blocking everything out in ZBrush, utilising masking and extracting, and ZRemesher, as well as ZModeler to create the blockout mesh. While I could easily do the tertiary details during the texturing stage, I opted to sculpt them in ZBrush as this wasn't a production asset, and I had time to give the sculpt more love. I did the retopology and unwrapping in 3ds Max and moved on to Marmoset Toolbag for baking and some lighting setups. • The Gallery CG art to inspire “Not being a character designer, I find the best way to practise characters is to create them from a concept or existing drawing. I came across this great redesign of the Scooby-Doo characters by Brittany Myers and went for it. I love thinking about how to turn the design into volume so it works from all angles, while keeping the impact of the poses and simplicity of the shapes. There was no complex sculpting, just classic modelling, but mixed with sculpting tools to quickly modify the masses. Blender is perfect for this; you can easily switch from one mode to another and see the result quickly. “I want to thank Acid Nerve for the adventure I lived with the video game Death's Door. It was an experience evoked in so many ways, with a lovely story and isometric art style. I decided to create a 3D model as a tribute. I began with a diorama focusing on the relationship between the crows and the doors around the world. But after time, I purchased the artbook and saw a wonderful illustration by Frits Olsen that struck me immediately. This diorama was a stylised break among my more realistic work and projects. I like to give an illustrated feel to my 3D models.
