better together

For two years, we were inseparable. Maybelline New York’s ColorTattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze and I, that is. The bitty pot, about the size of a half dollar, was filled with a tacky shadow the exact color of dry cocoa powder. It was the only cream shadow I’d ever found that could withstand my lids’ oiliness, so I used it as a base under the glittery shadows I loved—with nary a crease. It looked great on its own, too, lending my lids a subtle depth. Then the unthinkable happened: Maybelline discontinued the shade. Not long after that, I scraped the last smear out of the pot I’d used every day. I had worn it more consistently than deodorant—or a bra. I tried (unsuccessfully) to find substitutes and eventually…

great minds ink alike

Zoë Kravitz The actor has multiple tattoos from Woo, including a couple of tiny leaves etched onto her hands. Hailey and Justin Bieber The model loves tiny cursive words: “Baldwin” on her finger, “Gente” on her hip, and “Minas Gerais” on her ankle, after a Brazilian state near Rio. (No idea why.) Selena Gomez A set of Roman numerals on the back of Gomez’s neck spell out 76, reportedly in tribute to her mother, born in 1976. DR. WOO The good doctor’s Los Angeles practice is so exclusive, nobody knows where it is: The address becomes available only upon appointment confirmation. JON BOY In the chair of every model’s favorite tattooer, $450 will get you a square inch of wearable body art. BANG BANG Keith McCurdy (alias Bang Bang) went from 12,000 Instagram followers to 200,000 after inking a lion onto…

the artist is injured.

Miryam Lumpini has wrapped a navy Gucci scarf around her camouflage-print foot cast to protect her toes from the fingers of New York’s frigid winter. (Ankle fracture from jumping off a ledge. Cause: boundless excitement.) The setting is Bang Bang NYC, which looks more like a supervillain’s lair than a place you would go to get a tattoo, with concrete floors and obsidian ceilings. Lumpini has a studio in L.A. but does residencies at tattoo parlors like Bang Bang when she’s in New York. Kendrick Lamar is blaring from hidden ceiling speakers at a decibel level just below ear-shattering, and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are finishing up a consultation. Hypebeasts in sweatpants lie prone on wooden tables, while other hypebeasts toil away on their limbs. Lumpini’s canvas is Adrian, a 23-year-old…

editors’ favorites

1. Agent Provocateur Classic Eyemask in Black. Just as satiny pillowcases keep hair from getting roughed up, this silk eye mask coddles brows and lashes. 2. Iconic London Sculpt & Boost Eyebrow Cushion. A two-tone ink pad comes in four shades for arches that look multidimensional rather than flat, and won’t wimp out by day’s end—even on oily complexions. 3. L’Oréal Paris Flash Cat Eye by Infallible in Black. An attached stencil ensures crisp winged liquid liner, no matter how shaky the situation. 4. Dior Capture Totale DreamSkin Care & Perfect serum. This blush-tone mattifier goes on any skin tone colorlessly (and not one bit chalky), leaving skin hydrated and smooth. 5. Christian Louboutin Velvet Matte Lip in Triluna. A fiery, Hitchcock-worthy matte crimson whose tube doubles as a (somewhat threatening) pendant. Or a Christmas-in-July ornament. 6. Maybelline New York…

chiara ferragni

In 2009, a 22-year-old Milanese law student started a blog called The Blonde Salad, a visual potpourri of her style and travels. By 2017, Forbes had named Ferragni (then CEO of her own fashion line) one of the world’s most influential people. That same year, a little beauty company named Lancôme asked the alpha blogger if she might lend her taste (and wide blue eyes) to limited-edition makeup. The results are finally in—and it’s clear nothing got lost in translation: The item she feels naked without: Mascara. I never don’t put mascara on. Her beauty pet peeve: A big, heavy beauty case. Most people live life on the go. I wanted a palette that had a bit of everything: There are four eye shadows, three highlighters, four lipsticks, and one lip gloss…

clear winner

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to “Get the Look”—I’m your host, Brennan Kilbane. Our subject? Moschino’s The Price Is Right–themed fall 2019 runway show. The grand prize isn’t the dental-hygiene-inspired clutch you see here. It’s the clear-tipped fingernails dripping in a quarry’s worth of sapphire embellishments. All would-be players have to do is find clear press-on nails from a beauty-supply store. (Paint on your chosen design before you apply them so you don’t have to worry about making a mess on the skin around your nails.) It’s never been easier to win big.…
