Dear ANORAK Friends, What is a family? That is the question we are asking ourselves in this issue. To explore it in our usual ‘everything-is-fun’ way, we decided to invite you all to travel to: There, we discover what makes a family and whether animals have families too. We learn how to make our very own family wheel, which is like a family tree but much more fun. Back when electricity didn’t exist, people relied on candles, oil or gas to provide light on the streets. In cities, there was no magic button someone could press to light up every lamp in every street, so whose job was it to do that? Lamplighters, of course! Using a long stick that carried a match at the end of it, they would walk around and light up every lamp they came across. And guess what they had to do in the mornings? There are two main sizes, small ones at around 1 inch in diameter and bigger ones, around 3 inches. HOW OLD ARE THEY? Children all over the world have been collecting and playing marbles for thousands of years.
