LAND ROVER FAILED in its UK legal action against Ineos, having argued the Grenadier was a copy of its iconic original Defender. Ineos won that battle and the first Grenadiers are now rolling off the production line. To reach this point, Ineos deserves enormous credit. Industrialising a car and taking it into mass production is a stage so many wannabe car makers fall over at, given the sheer complexity and legislative demands placed on cars and their makers. But Ineos did get there, helped by £1.3 billion from the deep pockets of its founder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
