April is one of my favourite months, not least because I was born on 20 April, right on the cusp of Aries and Taurus – so I’m both bossy and fond of the finer things in life! Exciting things are afoot for all of us this year, no matter what our star sign, and astrologer Teresa Dellbridge has got some great advice on making the most of this thrilling celestial energy on p58. And as usual, the magazine is packed with great true-life stories. I was touched by the story of Declan sending his mum wedding dresses from Heaven that she uses to raise money for charity – he sounds like he’s as lovely a lad now as he was before he passed. Read his story on p12. And don’t forget,…

sleeping with the enemy

Annaliese Moorhouse, 44, West Yorkshire Throwing my arms round Mum, I pressed an envelope into her hand. ‘Surprise!’ I beamed as she tore it open. Mum looked at what was inside and gasped. ‘You shouldn’t have, Annaliese!’ she said. ‘This is such a treat.’ It was the day before Mum’s 60th birthday and I’d been trawling the web to find the perfect hotel to take her for her birthday night. We only had one night to get away, so I wanted it to be somewhere special. I’d booked a grand old hotel in Scarborough, so we could walk along the seafront and enjoy the beautiful views. The hotel had great reviews when I researched it online - but I did notice a few comments from visitors saying there was something seriously spooky about it. There were stories…

the demon’s curse

Back at home, normality resumed and the memory of that terrifying night began to slip away. We both did our best to put it to the back of our minds. But it wasn’t long before my mum, who’d hardly had a day’s illness in her whole life, started having serious health problems. Six months after our trip, she began to complain of chest pains and breathlessness. I recognised the signs of a stroke ‘You need to get yourself checked out, Mum,’ I told her, deeply concerned. ‘Oh, don’t worry, love, it’s just severe acid reflux,’ she assured me. Terrible pain But one night she was in so much pain that we rang for an ambulance. It turned out that she wasn’t just experiencing acid reflux. Those pains had been mini-heart attacks. We were all shocked. Nobody in our family could…

weekend haunts

Smuggler’s haunt Rye, in Sussex, is a fascinating place to visit – as it used to be by the sea and a hotbed for smugglers! The sea has since retreated and Rye is now inland, but its smuggling legacy lives on at the Mermaid Inn, which was once the centre of operations for the notorious Hawkhurst Gang. They used a network of tunnels under the town to smuggle goods – there’s said to be a tunnel connecting to the Mermaid’s cellar. It’s also haunted by a whole plethora of ghosts, including Thomas Kingsmill, a brutal murderer who was second-in-command of the Hawkshurst Gang, and the wife of Hawkshurst Gang founder George Gray, who allegedly haunts a rocking chair in the bedroom known as the Kingsmill Room. Guests have reported seeing it…

from the heart

WHAT’S IN YOUR spooky snaps? Girl in the hood Dear Sally I took this selfie in my hallway — and didn’t notice until afterwards a figure behind me like Red Riding Hood. It’s creepy! Deborah Taylor, Leeds Dear Deborah You have 100% genuinely captured a ghost of a child behind you. The spirit is of a young girl in a red dress who, going by the height of the door handle, must be around seven or eight years old. I feel that this girl would have died in this property. Her energy is most definitely heightened towards the later part of the year. I get the name Sandra. I feel that she can be heard running up and down a corridor and shuffling can be heard in a room when the door is closed. I suspect that…
