We’re living through strange and worrying times. With the coronavirus crisis ongoing, many of us are deeply concerned about what the future might hold, for us and our loved ones. This month, we’ve got some articles to help you deal with the anxiety you may be experiencing. Check out p56 for some simple calming rituals, and p14 for easy yoga moves that will help balance mind, body and soul. We’ve also got a great lead story on p4 about the horribly tormented souls trapped in former prison, Newcastle Castle. A reminder, perhaps, that our ancestors lived though even tougher times than we’re experiencing right now. condemned to death

Elaine Sugden Kelly, from Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham Striding into the ancient Keep of Newcastle Castle, I shivered. Already, I could feel spirit energy all around me. And not all of it was friendly. As my team bustled around, setting up cameras and K2 meters to detect whether spirit was present, I looked for somewhere to make a cup of tea – only to discover that there’s no running water in the Keep. I could already feel my nerves fraying, really needed that mug of hot steaming tea to keep me together! One thing was for certain: it was going to be one hell of an evening… I run a paranormal investigation group called Spectre Detectors, leading a team of mediums and enthusiastic members of the public in investigations in and around County Durham. I’d…

eternal torment

Gently, we encouraged the woman’s spirit to move towards the light. The table stopped shaking. ‘She’s gone,’ I murmured. Just then, the table started to shake like mad. We said the Lord’sPrayer to calm down ‘He’s here,’ Andrew yelled. ‘It’s the priest!’ The other members of the team were struggling to hold onto the table. My spirit guides were anxious, warning me that the priest was dangerous. They didn’t want him getting too close to me. It was obvious that he was furious at having his victim taken away from him – and thought that I was to blame. ‘I feel really angry,’ someone gasped. ‘I think he’s trying to possess me.’ Enough was enough. We decided to shut the session down, following this with the Lord’s Prayer to calm the atmosphere. Caught on film After that, we went down…

britain’s most haunted castles

1. Chillingham Castle, Northumberland Often described as the ‘most haunted castle in England,’ this mediaeval castle is a ghost hunter’s dream location. It’s got everything, from unexplained cold spots to a sadistic torturer in the dungeons to the rustle of silk from the skirts of resident spook, Lady Mary Berkeley. For many years, the castle was haunted by the ‘Radiant Boy,’ who would first appear as a blue orb before manifesting as the apparition of a child clad in blue. During renovation work in the 20th century, the skeleton of a boy was found walled up in the castle, shreds of blue fabric still clinging to his bones. Once he’d been properly buried, sightings of this apparition ceased. 2. Berry Pomeroy, Devon A crumbling castle ruin near Totnes in Devon, Berry Pomeroy’s ghostly…

WHAT’S IN YOUR spooky snaps? Wandering the woods Dear Sally This photo was taken on All Hallows’ Eve after asking for spirit to show themselves. A lot happened at this location that night – some see it while others don’t! Nikki Shorthouse, Newton Abbot, Devon Dear Nikki In this picture I can see two manifestations of spirit. One is of a young man and the other is also a man but older. They are not related and they are not connected to each other. The younger man is running past the camera and is wearing a hoody and jeans. I get a real sense that the other image is of an older man as he is smaller in frame and crouching over. He is sitting on the floor with his legs drawn up to him. I feel…

WATCH OUT If you’re a fan of the late, great Sir Terry Pratchett and his hilarious Discworld books, then you’re in for a treat, because a TV adaptation of his books about the Watch is in the pipeline. The Discworld is a wild and magical world which is carried by four elephants riding on the back of a giant turtle called Great A’Tuin. Its greatest city is Ankh-Morpork, which has a lot in common with mediaeval London, only with more trolls and goblins, and this city is policed by Sam Vimes and his gang of night watchmen. To say they’re hapless is an understatement – until they’re joined by the heroic yet mysterious Carrot... Sir Terry wrote nine novels about the Watch, and rumour has it that the TV adaptation is likely to…
