It’s 45 years since the Mk2 Escort was first revealed, and there’s still one on a road, race track or rally stage somewhere near you. The popularity of the now-classic Mk2 shows no signs of slowing, and demand for these cars is at sky-high levels. Fortunately for you, you can now overdose on the Ford legend from the comfort of your armchair courtesy of this issue, with top- features on the best cars taken by the best photographers. Plus on page 52 you’ll find Dan’s guide to tuning and improving the Mk2 — perfect if you plan on taking on a project of your own (or even improving your existing Escort). shell shock

Name: Jim Davidson Age: 62 Job: engineer Location: Glasgow, UK Car: 1969 Cortina Savage Start condition: complete but in need of restoration Condition now: major bodywork repairs complete Time taken so far: two years Estimated date of completion: Summer 2021 It’s fair to say that Jim Davidson likes his fast cars. He’s owned interesting ones since he was 18, including numerous Escort RS2000s, Triumph Stags (latterly building one with an LS V8), and even scratched the Cortina Savage itch with a pair of Mk2s owned in the 1980s and 1990s. The 3-litre Essex V6-powered Cortina Mk2s, Mk3s and Mk4s created by Jeff Uren’s Race Proved concern in the late ’60s and throughout the ’70s have always enjoyed a cult following, even when new, and after Jim sold on his last one, he knew it wouldn’t be his last — such…

wheel meet again?

The organisers of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, are doing everything possible to increase the chances of the November event happening in 2020 once government gives its approval. “There is no one that wants this show to happen more than us” says Show Director, Lee Masters. “As a team, we have brainstormed and created working groups to look at everything we need to do to keep all our visitors, clubs and traders safe but still put on the show they love as soon as we get the green light from government. It may look and feel different to previous years, but we’re all getting used to a ‘new normal’ in the wake of Covid-19. “Clarion Events has collaborated with other event industry leaders to create the All Secure Standard,…

ford fair 2020

Sadly, despite the date of this year’s show being pushed back to late October, Ford Fair 2020 has had to be cancelled. “It has been a truly challenging time for everyone, and we have continued to work with colleagues in the events industry, venues, commercial partners, clubs and customers to ascertain the best path forwards,” say the organisers. “Ultimately, we have concluded it was better to make a decisive call now than carry on with a high degree of uncertainty as to whether or not we could run the event in a safe and enjoyable way for everyone involved.” If you’ve bought tickets your booking will be automatically carried forward into 2021, or you can get a refund at https://help. kelsey.co.uk. The show will return in 2021 – keep up to speed…
