welcome

As we inch slowly and hopefully towards the show season opening up here in the UK, the draw of seeing classic Fords in the metal again is an increasingly strong one. If you can’t wait, don’t have your own classic Ford to gawp at, but happen to have a cool £6K burning a hole in your pocket, then turn to page 23 for our guide on what you can get for your money — whether it’s from the 1960s or 1990s, there’s something for all tastes. solitary confinement

Being in and out of lockdown for the last year or so has done unusual things to the classic car scene. For a lot of people, the desperation of confinement has encouraged a certain lethargy, leaving them with little energy beyond trying to complete Netflix with an endless stream of takeaway pizzas. But for a hardcore of car enthusiasts, we’ve seen people turning their frowns upside-down by squirrelling themselves away in the garage, pouring all of their passionate efforts into building top-flight motors. deadline 2026

As part of the Department for Transport’s recent announcement that it will introduce E10 petrol as standard in the UK by September, its commitment to provide E5 fuel in higher-octane ‘protection grade’ for older vehicles including classic Fords is to be reviewed by the Government in five years. Both the maintenance of the Super E5 protection grade and the introduction of E10 will be evaluated to ensure they remain appropriate to the needs of the market. Fortunately for owners of older vehicles not compatible with E10 without modification, the Government has reassured the Federation Of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) that without a suitable alternative becoming available, it’s likely the Super E5 protection grade would continue to be available. Filling stations that stock two grades of petrol and supply at least one…

rusty corner

Terminally-rotten old Fords Clocked by Daniel Osborne, not only is this once-silver 1979 Cortina a relative rarity merely by being the Mk4 version, it’s also an incredibly scarce 2.3 Ghia. Parked next to an equally-unloved XJ6, the Mk4 has clearly been there for some time and we can only hope that it will get the restoration to truly deserves. Spotted an unloved Ford on your travels? Email photos and details of your find to classicford.ed@kelsey.co.uk or you can write to us at the address over on page 5.…
