Like most things in car culture, the term ‘sleeper’ originated in the United States, but it’s been part of the UK Ford scene for almost as long, too. In fact, Ford were at it themselves when they introduced the Mk1 Zephyr Six — a car that arguably kickstarted the whole modified Ford movement we now know and love. With the reduction of carbon emissions an increasingly dominant issue in global politics, the freedom to enjoy our classic Fords in future could depend on how we offset the footprint of their use. Although the carbon output of the sector is very small in relative terms, innovative schemes such as the latest from HERO-ERA could make all the difference when it comes to the classic car industry justifying its existence.
