YOUR EYE ON THE WORLDWIDE CLASSIC FORD SCENE The Historic & Classic Vehicles Alliance (HCVA), an organisation representing the historic vehicle industry as well as classic car owners, is lobbying for changes to the UK’s Low Emission Zones. It is campaigning for the current exemption for vehicles registered as ‘Historic’ to be expanded, enabling all classics over 30 years old to enter cities without charge. The HCVA is reporting positive news from Scotland, where consultations on incoming LEZ schemes have been taking place. Transport Scotland has announced that Glasgow will ramp up its LEZ to private cars and other vehicles by June 2023, with Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh having their own LEZ schemes in operation by summer 2024. Some 47 years after its European launch, the Fiesta is set to disappear from the Ford range by next summer. Despite years of market domination, the Fiesta no longer plays a role in the UK’s top ten bestseller list, while its main rival – the Vauxhall Corsa – continues to top the sales charts. The Fiesta’s fall from grace is Europewide, with 2022 sales (to the end of August) being 45 per cent down on last year. In August alone, the Fiesta failed even to make the European top 50 list, selling just 2735 units throughout Europe that month.
