Some of us like to complete a project, then once we’re happy with it, move on and start the next one, but not Tobias Arkell. He’s owned this Fiesta XR2i for over a decade now and in that time it’s evolved from a standard car, to getting a highcompression, normally-aspirated CVH, then onto a turbo, and in its most recent, completed form, a rear-wheel-drive conversion and turbocharged ST170 motor — the one constant being that the car has always looked like a standard-ish XR2i from the outside. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is set to cover every London borough by next summer, it has been confirmed – with the move set to impact large numbers of older-car owners living within the affected area, raising fears that modern classics could end up scrapped as a result. The move by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, means the current zone – which was expanded last year to cover all areas within the North and South Circular roads – will move to the boundary of the current Low Emission Zone (LEZ) from August 29, 2023, although the M25 will not be covered. It means only cars that meet strict emission requirements will be allowed to enter London areas without incurring the ULEZ charge. Petrol car compliance will start with Euro 4…

Terminally-rotten old Fords This issue’s rusty spot appears to be very non-rusty indeed, though spotter, Juan Diaz was able to get up close and personal to reveal the following: “The Mk4 Zephyr is a pretty rare sight over here in north west Spain,” he tells us. “It has some rusty spots, mainly in the front left corner and bootlid. The chrome on the rear bumper is peeling off and you can see that under it the bumper is rusted as well. The interior seems to be reasonably OK, but I couldn’t get much closer to the car to be able to check.
