A delay was the first ‘effect’ I ever used. Back then, it was from a rack-mount piece of hardware that cost the Earth. It was closely followed by an equally expensive reverb. In those days you spent so much on effects that you tended to use them on everything. Or I did anyway. So my substandard electronic music pieces had a good dose of delay on pretty much every track and sound. There were delays popping in and out of both left and right speakers, and on everything from simple basslines to synth leads and Jarre strings. Basically I’d spent hundreds of pounds on an effects unit, dammit, and I was going to put it to good use! It completely jumbled up my mixes and cluttered up my tracks, but…
