A note from the editor
My grandmother, who was a keen gardener and vegetable grower, used to say that “the month of May has much to recommend it”. As a child, I’d often stay at her house during the spring and summer months and most nights, just before bedtime, she would encourage me to take my nose out of a book and join her in the garden. We’d head straight out to the greenhouse, where she’d lovingly teach me how to tend her tomato plants. Or sometimes we would fill the wheelbarrow with grass cuttings and take them to the compost heap. Occasionally, we’d just sit together on the back doorstep and watch the sun go down. These happy childhood memories are etched in my mind for ever. As I look, for a final time, at…
