Pilots don’t need much excuse to get up and go. The promise of a good forecast will have most of us travelling for hours to catch the conditions, while a bad one will see us fleeing for somewhere sunnier. A classic day in the mountains with a promised high base will draw hundreds of pilots to the honeypots in the Alps, while a record day in the flats will see pilots driving for miles to launch from windy pimples to chase cloud shadows downwind.
