The myth that Colorado gets 300 days of sunshine a year got its start like many things did in Denver: with the railroad. In 1870, an ad in a New York newspaper in promoting train travel to the west highlighted Colorado’s bright blue skies as part of the allure. Where they got that little factoid is anyone’s guess but it wasn’t rooted in reality, we know now. Not that knowing that has stopped us from keeping the stat circulating. People love to brag about where they live, and cloudless skies on all but 65 days a year is certainly something worth bragging about. It’s actually what got me to move here in 2015.
