clash of the titans

I live on a rural farm in the American Deep South. My gun collection is a source of recreation, pride, fellowship, and income. However, amongst all the old collectible iron, quirky one-offs, and intriguing mechanical widgets there yet remains a nucleus of practical working guns. Some of my guns are for looking at and others are for detailed mechanical study, but a few stand ready to guard my family against the resplendent ills of our manifestly fallen world. The coveted title of apex predator has been the goal of quite a few respectable smoke poles. The champion sits next to the door ready for use at a moment’s notice. It also frequently accompanies my family and me on our regular strolls through the woods. That rifle has to be rugged, portable,…

NEW PRODUCTS FROM BRAVO COMPANY! BCM MK2 UPPER RECEIVER Redesigned by lessons learned in combat since 9/11, the BCM MK2 Upper Receiver is built with up to 30% more rigidity than the current Mil-Spec M4 upper receiver without sacrificing interoperability for a mere additional 1/3 ounce of weight. MEET THE NEW WAR, SAME AS THE OLD WAR Upper receivers with baked in carry-handles and iron sights have been relegated to history. Optics are now synonymous with forward deployed combat carbines, featuring modular "optics ready" flat top upper receivers. Driven by a sense of urgency to improve lethality and save American lives in real-time, this innovation of the current M4 Upper Receiver has inadvertently introduced a degradation in the rigidity of the upper receiver, with the weakest point being the area around the ejection port. Shifting…

rugged suppressors obsidian .45 for the heavy

Okay, when pistol suppressors come up as a subject of discussion, we almost always hear about 9mm, but not the .45. Why? Part of that is due to the owners. The owners of the host firearms, that is. Someone with a steamer trunk full of 9mm polymer-framed pistols is going to be buying 9mm suppressors. It is mostly the old guys who stick with .45, and old guys apparently don’t have beards, ink, or suppressors. (I had a beard before people associated it with tactical. I’m not getting ink/tattoos. I have .45 suppressors.) But a properly-built .45 suppressor can do things a 9mm suppressor cannot. The Rugged Suppressors Obsidian is a .45 ACP silencer, but it is built for more than just the slow, fat product of American pistol technology of…

backlash in the commonwealth!

Emboldened by their takeover of the state house and senate in the November election, anti-gun Virginia Democrats have launched an all-out assault on the Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms. Fortunately for freedom-loving Americans in Virginia and throughout the country, pro-gun activists in the Old Dominion aren’t taking it lying down. In fact, the pro-freedom grassroots groundswell currently pushing back against the anti-gun proposals is likely the most important and volatile situation currently faced by Second Amendment supporters throughout the country. And all eyes are on Virginia to see what will happen next. As a little history, on Nov. 5, Virginia Democrats, many flush with cash from Michael Bloomberg’s gun-ban apparatus, managed to win enough seats to take control of both houses of the state legislature. Unfortunately for law-abiding citizens…

collector grade publications three-volume

This review is a bit different in that, as well as being a review of this excellent series, it is also a tribute to the late owner and publisher of Collector Grade Publications, Robert Blake Stevens, who passed away April 22, 2018. All serious collectors owe Blake a debt of gratitude. In 1979, Blake established Collector Grade, a publishing house specializing in firearms. Yes, there are other gun book publishers, but what set Blake’s books apart was his devotion to quality over quantity. In each Collector Grade title, the level of detail in the text is surpassed only by the number of excellent color illustrations. And the books themselves are noteworthy from the paper quality to their presentation in case bound covers with sewn-in pages. Copies of various titles are still available…
