statement style

You’ve probably created a feature wall at some point. Transformed a room with a splash of colour or a contained explosion of wallpaper. But here’s an idea to step up your statement wall game – create one that is entirely about showcasing your antiques collections. Use your treasured finds to create a spectacular display, and it will be totally unique to you. This month, our photoshoot team has developed six statement looks by styling collectables with striking wallcoverings, and the results are extraordinary. Prepare to be inspired from page 42. These aren’t the only statements to be found amid this month’s pages. With its yellow floor and vintage fuchsia chairs, our cover house is not for the colour shy! Artist owner Trevor Burgess has created a bold, dynamic space by restoring an…

A BID FOR LOVE I’m quite jealous of the bidder who won this fun ‘Passion Tester’ at auction. What a talking point! THE MOTHER It’s hard to pick out just one antique from our photoshoot, but the detail on this Parian bust is incredible. FOR A ROOM OF ONE’S OWN Artisan-style ceramics, inspired by the works of the great Virginia Woolf? Yes please. HIGH TEA The eagle-eyed will have spotted a sign just like this peeking out from behind our logo on the cover. BACK TO MACK Say ‘Charles Rennie Mackintosh’ and you probably picture an iconic high-back chair, like this beauty.…

A Fantastic Read The April magazine was so inspirational, with fantastic articles about crafts. It was entirely due to Homes & Antiques that I started going to auctions many years ago, where I started to buy old chairs. I went to classes to learn how to restore the woodwork and reseat them with cane and rushes. Then, some years later, I started quilting, which resulted in several bed covers and many cushions. I bought much of my fabric from British Heart Foundation charity shops – it’s amazing how much fabric goes into a man’s shirt! I will look forward to the May edition, and my next-door neighbour will too. So will the local hairdresser after that! Rima Martin, via email A Breath of Fresh Air I was delighted, as a 94-year-old H&A fan, to…

the COLLABORATION BARKER AND STONEHOUSE X ORLA KIELY Orla Kiely’s colourful and quirky pattern designs have made her a must-buy name in the interiors world, and we adore her new upholstered furniture collection with Barker and Stonehouse. Expect sleek tapered legs, classic silhouettes and some of Kiely’s best-known designs, like this Mimosa snuggler, which costs £839 and is available in a choice of colours and retro-style upholstery fabrics. barkerandstonehouse.co.uk the ANTIQUE ANNA BURLES X RETRO LIVING We love a good collaboration – especially when said collaboration is between London-based vintage shop Retro Living and acclaimed interior designer Anna Burles (pictured right). In this joint project, the pair have restored and reupholstered a range of antique seats using vivacious, contemporary fabrics from Arley House and Linwood. retroliving.co.uk the COLLECTABLE CERAMICS INSPIRED BY VIRGINIA WOOLF In her latest collection, commissioned…
