Finding the positives is something we’ve all had to do over the past few months. From the heroic efforts of our frontline workers to the simple acts of kindness of neighbours helping each other out, there’s been so much I’ve been feeling incredibly grateful for recently. The other thing this time has given us is the opportunity to pause and reflect on how we really live in our homes. Instead of just passing through on our way to work or out to visit friends and family, we now have the opportunity to see things we might not have noticed before – even the little everyday details, such as the way the sunlight moves around a room. This allows ideas to percolate and helps us to problem solve. Earlier this year, for…

As a designer, establishing a distinctive style can be tricky – but for Silvia Kamodyova, growing up in Slovakia and relocating to the UK in her twenties put her in a unique position to consider the nature of craft itself. ‘In my language, we just don’t have the word “craft” – it would only describe a hobby and I find it very misleading. What I do would be called “utility arts”.’ And with its robust silhouettes softened by painterly doses of uplifting colour, Silvia’s work captures this imperfect translation perfectly. Silvia was born into the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic under communist rule, when artists were restricted by the government. ‘The creative landscape was limited – galleries were full of socialist realism or utopian propaganda,’ she explains. Oblivious to the turbulent political scene…

WOVEN WONDERS We’re longing for the calming palette and tactile materials taking centre stage in Made’s new season collection of furniture and accessories. Featuring the age-old – and ever popular – crafts of caning and marquetry, the techniques have been reimagined for contemporary living using simple silhouettes. Team the pieces with relaxed jute, linen textiles and rustic ceramics for a light and uncomplicated look that’s oh-so-easy to live with. ONE TO WATCH KANA LONDON Artist and sculptor Ana Kerin founded ceramics brand Kana London in 2012 after discovering inspiration and joy from working with clay. Alongside a beautiful range of handmade pieces, Ana offers sell-out ceramics workshops and courses. Most recently, she has launched the Stay Home Clay Club, encouraging people to learn a new skill from their own homes. Whether you’re a beginner…

TELL US WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO LAUNCH YOUR OWN INTERIORS BRAND I was a retail buyer for many years, working for brands such as Heal’s, Jamie Oliver and Paperchase, but I’d always felt really passionate about independent retail and bringing new products to the market. Launching exclusively online didn’t have quite the same draw for me as a bricks-and-mortar store, so I opened both at the same time and haven’t looked back. WHAT’S THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND INSIDE STORE? We help people create relaxed modern homes that they love to live in and that reflect their personality. We do all the legwork, curating a cohesive collection from some of the best brands and makers out there such as Hay, Muuto, String, Ferm Living and Menu. Our laidback approach means our collection is design-led and…
