wonder women

Commissioning the illustration for this month’s cover began with a conundrum – how could we portray this issue’s theme without the obvious metaphors – insurmountable peaks, lions, tigers, superhero poses – none of these felt very mindful. Then we realised, there are many subtler, yet no less powerful, ways to tap into our inner Wonder Woman – because bravery comes in many forms. Facing a physical challenge is certainly courageous, but so is starting a new job, going on a first date, saying yes in a room full of nos, saying no in a room full of yeses… And what is bravery if not the confidence to be ourselves; to accept new challenges – big or small; to step out of our comfort zone – on tiptoe or sure-footed. We are…

plastic-free periods

As environmentally-conscious consumers, many of us will have started saying no to the offer of plastic shopping bags or disposable coffee cups, but how many of us have thought about the plastic in our period products? Beat the burden of plastic reliance by choosing Natracare’s natural and organic period products. Natracare is the leading plastic-free period brand and has been providing women with eco-friendly solutions to conventional sanitary products for 30 years. Natracare’s pads and panty liners are totally plastic-free with only certified organic cotton touching the skin.…

good news*

Doctor’s orders Doctors in Cardi are telling patients to ‘get on their bikes’ as part of a groundbreaking pilot scheme being trialled in the welsh capital. The scheme allows GPs to prescribe a six-month subscription to bike-share service nextbike (nextbike.co.uk). “Riding a bike is one of the easiest ways to reduce your risk of ill health, while building your cardiovascular fitness. It’s great for improving mental wellbeing too,” says Dr Tom Porter, a consultant in Public Health Medicine who is advising on the pilot. He hopes that by prescribing cycling, patients will add it into their routine and up their activity levels each week. It’s ringing our (bike) bell!
