Commissioning the illustration for this month’s cover began with a conundrum – how could we portray this issue’s theme without the obvious metaphors – insurmountable peaks, lions, tigers, superhero poses – none of these felt very mindful. Doctor’s orders Doctors in Cardi are telling patients to ‘get on their bikes’ as part of a groundbreaking pilot scheme being trialled in the welsh capital. The scheme allows GPs to prescribe a six-month subscription to bike-share service nextbike (nextbike.co.uk). “Riding a bike is one of the easiest ways to reduce your risk of ill health, while building your cardiovascular fitness. It’s great for improving mental wellbeing too,” says Dr Tom Porter, a consultant in Public Health Medicine who is advising on the pilot.
