unprecedented times

WHENEVER Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, addresses the nation he constantly refers to these ‘unprecedented times’ and he is right. Who would ever have thought that they would live through a pandemic? One that is slowly destroying our economy, halted all but emergency and essential travel and is killing thousands by the day. For now fortunately our printing presses are still running, our distributors are still getting the magazine out to the stores that are still open and the good old Royal Mail is still delivering subscriber copies. We were very mindful when putting this issue together. What would you want to read when faced with a lockdown when all you have is your family and your Landy? A total of 312 vehicles (as of April 9) have now been deployed globally by JLR to support emergency response organisations during the coronavirus crisis. a closer look at what the car manufacturer has been doing in south africa

IN order to keep South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) mobile in its efforts to control and minimise the spread of the coronavirus, 11 vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover’s Experience and marketing fleets, have been supplied free of charge. They have been dispatched nationwide to boost transport capacity for SARCS while volunteers have been deployed to critical areas where they will engage communities and educate on how the virus is transmitted and how to avoid risks. In many vulnerable areas the South African population has limited access to mainstream media and social platforms such as TV, Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp which provide instant communication and updates of COVID-19. SARCS will use alternative communication methods such as megaphones to conduct mass community education and awareness while observing the social distance prevention rule. The…

range rover’s 50th birthday celebrations begin

WHILE events to commemorate 50 years of Range Rover around the world are being cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus, Land Rover were at least able to begin their anniversary celebrations with a snow art installation at its Arjeplog cold weather test facility in Sweden. Back in March, renowned snow artist Simon Beck created the 53,092 square metre anniversary logo by walking more than 45,000 steps across the powdery surface inside the steering pad, accompanied by a quartet of the latest Range Rover SV models. As well as the giant piece of sub-zero art, Land Rover ambassador (and owner of a custom Range Rover SVAutobiography long-wheelbase) world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua OBE experienced the thrill of ice driving under the expert supervision of academy instructors in the latest Range Rover…

DEVON and Cornwall 4x4 Response Group, a registered charity (No 1154370) formed in 2009 is affiliated to the National 4x4 Response Network and aims to provide logistical support for the emergency services in times of need, and if ever there was a time when members were needed to volunteer their time and vehicles it’s now! Ocean Healthcare Complex Care needed to get urgent personal protective equipment (PPE) gear to care for babies, children and younger people all of whom have complex life-long and in some cases profound, life-limiting medical care needs, which makes them highly vulnerable to infections and other complications. With the threat of coronavirus, their team of carers had to increase protection to a much higher level and with PPE scarce across the UK, they requested supplies of surgical and…
