Long Live Vinyl April 2020

Long Live Vinyl is the UK’s only magazine entirely and solely dedicated to all things vinyl. Celebrating all aspects of vinyl culture, every month the magazine is packed with news, reviews of the best new releases and reissues and essential buying advice on the latest turntables and hi-fi gear. We also interview the best established and new bands, bring you in-depth collecting advice and turn the spotlight on the nation’s independent labels and record shops – the lifeblood of the much talked about vinyl revival. On top of all that, every March we bring you the official Record Store Day guide to all 500+ releases. There’s never been a magazine like Long Live Vinyl.

Britain’s last great alternative music movement or, as eternal walking soundbite Noel Gallagher neatly quipped, “a nifty sentence to sum up a load of shit music”? The truth about ‘Britpop’ probably lies somewhere in between those two extremes. Some genuinely great records were made in those heady 90s years. British guitar music dominated the airwaves and record labels fell over themselves to sign anything with a pulse, a haircut and a parka. Of course, as with any musical movement, plenty of bands got lumped in with a scene they didn’t belong to and the A&R thirst for more of the same meant some absolutely terrible records got released. For every Different Class, Dog Man Star and Definitely Maybe in my own 90s collection, there lurked albums by Hurricane #1, Kula…

Believe it or not, but this year’s list of Record Store Day releases, revealed in full in the official guide free with this very magazine, is even bigger than the 2019 edition, with more than 550 entries. Among the many and varied slabs of vinyl that we’ll be joining the queue for on 18 April are three special releases which will benefit the charity War Child. For every copy of U2’s 11 O’Clock Tick Tock, Bowie’s CHANGESNOWBOWIE and Done & Dusted by Manic Street Preachers sold, £1 will be donated to the charity, which provides assistance to children living in areas affected by conflict. Record Store Day co-ordinator Megan Page said: “We are proud to be partnering with War Child and U2, Manic Street Preachers and David Bowie to support the incredible…

My new album is… called Revel In The Drama. It’s an encapsulation of my life, and the songs are journeys of self discovery, sexual liberation and coming to terms with exactly who I am. I’ve slayed many demons and batted many an eyelash. The sessions… took place at Echo Zoo studios in Eastbourne and were recorded over stretches of time. Eastbourne is often referred to as ‘God’s waiting room’ – the last stop before death. I was instantly in love with that phrase and ironically enough it became a place of rebirth for me. I initially went in with one group of songs, but as the recording process was so inspiring I’d continue to write more and more, and slowly what I refer to as the curves and swerves of the…
