letter of the month

Dear MEGA, Much like anyone who reads your magazine will attest, I am very much a fashion girl at heart. While it has certainly moved way past the latest bag to tote around for summer, the perfect shoe to take me from day-to-night or the latest runway imaginations of Marc Jacobs, the passion and energy is still very much there. Today, I am more interested in the business and goings on of the industry, wanting to know more of what keeps the gears of fashion going. This is most likely why when I saw the series of emotionally stirring and beyond beautiful images of Antelope Canyon with Kim Jones on your Instagram page, I knew I had to get a physical copy of the magazine. Getting to know about the inner workings…

what is pride?

June is undoubtedly one of MEGA’s most highly anticipated issues, and it is something we do with pride. While this year’s headliners are obviously accomplished individuals making a mark in their respective fields, what struck us most are not only their achievements, but how they are using their status to influence and promote advocacies that are close to their hearts. Naturally, this means that they are extremely busy—thus allotting time in their schedules to accommodate us with a shoot proved to be quite challenging. But as fate would have it, the stars fortuitously aligned, and off we quietly went to New York, the city that never sleeps, perhaps just like we did. Miss Universe Catriona Gray started modeling at a young age, and she has graced the fashion and beauty pages…

a time in new york

It was supposed to be the first exhale of spring, where we were promised considerable chill, sunlight poking through the gathering of clouds, and as the photographs suggested, a blooming of colors through the pockets of flowerbeds that decorated the city. However, the high (albeit jetlagged) spirits of our arrival was marred by biting winds and a rude drenching of rain. The possibility of an overcast of a dull gray hung over us all night and even in the morning of the day’s scheduled cover shoot, one that intended to feature the famed Midtown Manhattan skyline in all its towering and gleaming glory. However, as if orchestrated by the powers may be, the day slowly revealed a clear as blue sky and a draping of toasty blanket of warmth by the…

Who are we? What have we become? It has been centuries since our heroes paid the price for our freedom, and only God knows what they would think the moment they see the land they have so willingly fought for. But not all is lost. The hope of the future lies in the hands of the next generation, as Rizal famously wrote. And he isn’t at all wrong. This June, MEGA comes together in unity to celebrate the new blood, new allies, and most importantly—the freedom to be our true selves. With this issue, we honor the excellence of Filipino talent in the terrain of fashion and style, a landscape that continues to thrive and survive. And if anyone dares to question our existence, this is who we truly are.…
