The highlight of the last few days has of course been the return of the Motorhome of the Year Awards and the introduction of the new Campervan of the Year Awards. The awards were presented at the recent National Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC. From the feedback and just from overhearing the conversations at the show, I know many show visitors made a beeline for the winners as soon as they were named. What a show and the entertainment was out of this world, well worth the journey. Our an 'is a 2017 Swift Select 122, which we adore, but I am having trouble with the 12V compressor fridge draining the battery and the solar panel not being able to keep up. Approaching the dealer we purchased it from (incidentally, our vehicle is just outside the warranty), I had no success to any of the questions I asked. I have just read the interesting review of the Rapido 8086dF by Patrick Coyne in MMM (September, p117). In the owner's review Mr Coyne mentions the issue of the poorly designed view of the speedo and his solution of a LED illuminated cowl. As many will know this is such a poor design and I was wondering if Mr Coyne would share his solution with us? Roger Lathbury ED Many readers have reported on this issue. As a follow-up to the letter from Stuart Hancock, October. In addition to the heating issue, what about when it rains? The roof vents need to be brought down and the sliding windows at the front need to be closed. Has anyone discovered a way to have the sliding windows open and keep the rain out? I thought that having read the “Charging for Children” (October, p10/11), that you might be interested to see our nine-year-old beagle, Kiki, sat at the wheel of our motorhome while we were on Skye in August. On our return to the 'van, if she had to be left behind, she was always to be seen sitting at the driver's seat. While travelling, we have her anchored with a seatbelt down low where she cannot see out of the windows, but is quite happy in her bed between the two front seats. As an after comment, we would not have been prevented taking her with us if the site on Skye in Broadford had charged.
